Mississippi District Traveler’s Plaque Challenge

The purpose of this program is to promote visitation and friendly competition at the Chapter level. Only GWRRA Members and Associate Members may participate in the capturing process of the Traveler’s Plaque. Members of the District Staff may accompany their home Chapter and be counted but may not capture the plaque by themselves.

The plaque shall be captured by using motorcycles as the means of transportation. No minimum mileage is required.                   Four wheeled vehicles may be used in December, January, February, or, if a participant is disabled and unable to ride at the time of the attempted capture.

● There will be two separate Areas of participation for a Plaque, the North Area and the South Area and each Area will have its own Traveler’s Plaque to compete for. In this manner, the Chapters will not have such great distances to travel.

● The Plaques will be presented at the January 2008 Chapter Officer’s Meeting to the two Chapters holding the first Chapter event of the year in their respective Area. The Traveler’s Plaque may be captured on any announced date determined by the Chapter possessing the plaque as long as that date is advertised at least ten days in advance of the date presented for capture. The Chapter Director possessing the Plaque must notify the ADD for his Area what date the Plaque will be available for capture. The ADD will immediately post the information on the District website and notify the CD’s in his Area by phone or e-mail.

● All points will begin at zero when the Plaque begins it’s year at the Chapter Officer’s Meeting in January. When a Chapter possessing the Plaque presents it for capture, that Chapter’s Director will calculate scores for each Chapter attempting to capture the Plaque. This formula (participants X miles X attempts = total score) will be called the Multiplying Factor. Mileage will be computed from the city where the Chapter is Chartered. Included with the ‘Scoring Sheet’ and the name of the capturing Chapter will also be the ‘Attempt Sheet’ containing the names of the Chapters not capturing the Plaque and the points those Chapters received for that attempt. Each attempt earns a Chapter a certain number of points determined by the Multiplying Factor. When a Chapter is successful in capturing the Plaque, their Multiplying Factor goes back to ‘1’.   The number of attempts will be noted on the ‘Attempt Sheet’. Once the score is finalized by the Chapter Director, no recalls will be allowed.  The points for each attempt will be added together for a total number of accumulative points at the end of the year. The ‘Scoring Sheet’ and the ‘Attempt Sheet’ will remain with the Plaque as it moves from Chapter to Chapter.

● Once a Chapter has captured the Plaque, that Chapter Director must notify the ADD for the Area when the date the Plaque will be available for capture. The ADD will immediately post the information on the District website and notify the CD’s in his Area by phone or e-mail. The Plaque must change hands at least once before the surrendering Chapter may attempt to capture it again.

● The Travelers Plaque Challenge will run from the Chapter Officer’s Meeting in January until Dec. 31st of the same year.

● The Chapters possessing the Plaques at the end of December of the current year will bring Plaque to the Chapter Officer’s Meeting in January. These two Chapters will offer the Plaque for capture at the earliest possible date in the New Year beginning in 2009.

● Awards will be presented at the Chapter Officer’s Meeting in January based on the Chapter with the most accumulative points in their Area throughout the year.
